The Lion and Snake pub, Lincoln

Back to the watercolours. This latest one shows the Lion and Snake pub on Bailgate in Lincoln. This is a lovely old 16th century pub, with the magnificent western towers of Lincoln Cathedral rising up behind it. I published a drawing of this in an earlier post.

I like this painting. Reminds me so much of the great impressionist paintings of the 19th century. Thanks for featuring another masterpiece in this post. God bless you always.

gosh, that cathedral is unreal! Don't have anything that old around here, that isn't Native American!

Another beauty, John:) But, I have to say that the drawing stands nicely on it's own!

Beautifully done, John.

I used to paint in watercolors, and you are inspiring me to re-visit them sooner rather than later. (Besides, I'm sick of the smell of acrylics, lol!)

Great work, looks so effortless... Out of curiousity, how long does it take? Do you work outside?
What kind of paper do you use? How wet do you have to keep it?
I am so excited I get your posts!

I love the old buildings of England. They are so steeped in history. Imagine what characters have frequented this pub. You make the history come alive. Nice work.

Beautiful! I remember you did a painting of this church for your exhibition or was it a different church?

Thanks Deb - yes, it's one of the great Gothic cathedrals of England and is certainly an impressive sight.

Thanks Simoart

Thanks Rita. I really do like purples and blues.

Thanks Nancy and I agree about the drawing.

Thanks Kathy.

Thanks Anita. It can be tricky getting the light just how you want it in a watercolour, but I'm quite pleased with the way this turned out.

Thanks Lynda - I find it a good thing to work in different media - keeps my work fresh.

Quite a few good questions here Svetlana. Probably too much to answer in these comments, but I am intending to do a post giving a step by step explanation of how I work.

Thanks lubasa.

Thanks Jean. It is really nice to paint buildings that have a long history behind them.

Thanks Patrice.

Babette - yes, it was paintings of Lincoln Cathedral that I exhibited just before Christmas. It's a building that I never tire of painting.

Oh it's so nice to see your watercolours of your area again. But I also love those acrylic roses. Am catching up here, as usual.
