Rooftops of Henrietta Street, Whitby

This watercolour looks down onto the red tiled rooftops of Henrietta Street in Whitby. The fisherman's cottages (well, holiday cottages now) are nestled close to the cliff on the east side of Whitby. After Henrietta Street, the path take you on along the cliff and then down towards the sea and the pier.

Hi John,
I like the perspective of this water colour very much. It reminds me of the views you can find in Dorset/England. Gretings, Petra

I feel like I'm really getting to know Whitby. How lucky you are to live in such a picturesque place. Nice painting.

Thanks Petra. Yes, it was the perspective of the roofs, pulling you towards the sea that attracted me to this scene.
Thanks storybeader. It's a real pleasure to share my work with other people.
Thanks Jean. Actually, I live in Nottingham, about 300 miles away from Whitby and about as far away from the sea as its possible to get in England. Whitby is one of my favourite holiday destinations and the paintings are done from photos and sketches I do while I'm there.

Looks like a perfect day for a walk.

Thanks Deronda. Yes there are some splendid walks in this part of the country, especially if you follow this path that I was on along the cliff. This takes you south down the coast towards the small, and rather quaint, coastal village of Robin Hood's Bay
