The Guardian in Snow

For this week I'm painting snow scenes from photos I took last week, beginning, as Dorothy might say, in my own back yard.
We first saw this little statue of a mysterious hooded figure at local garden centre, along with various pixies, goblins and trolls. Perfect for the garden, I thought. So home he came with us and now stands guard at the top of the steps leading to the old garden shed. Even in the coldest weather, he never deserts his post!!

He is mysterious... very nice. And there is mystery in your choice of placement... what is the wooden wall a part of? where does the brick wall lead? I like it!

Must be ESP in the air. My latest posting is of a snow scene painted some years ago. Love the figure standing guard. Like the way you depicted the wooden planks on the shed. Lively yet subtle.

Thanks Rita.
Sharkbytes - yes I was trying to evoke an atmosphere of mystery. Actually the wooden wall is the door to my old shed!

Storybeader - I love trying to depict different textures in watercolour.

Watercolorist - your right. It must be ESP. We're both painting snow and sheds.

Thanks Liz - actually we don't get much snow in Nottingham. Last week's fall was unusual, but I did get loads of photos as references for paintings.

Thanks Amelia.

Eerily beautiful. I don't think I'd want that in my garden though. I have a vivid imagination and I might just scare myself. LOL

Babette - yes he is a bit weird, but we've grown to love his slightly grumpy face.
