Unfinished Acrylics 3

This acrylic was painted from a number of photos I took of a deserted and dilapidated industrial building just east of the centre of Nottingham.

Through the roses
Acrylic on stretched canvas
39" x 24"

It can be seen from the railway line as the line goes out towards Lincoln. I took the photos last year from the road bridge going over the railway line. The dog rose bushes I was looking through are quiet a distance away from the building, but due to the flattening of distance caused by the zoom lens, the roses appear to be growing much nearer to the building. This gives it a feel of the roses creeping towards the building - rather a Gothic fantasy scenario.
I don't want to do a lot more to this work; just develop the foreground bushes a little more.

I'm having trouble finding your comment/s link. Had to go to the specific post (rather than your blog page) to have it come up???

And what I was planning to say was how very different your acrylics are from your watercolors... I do like this one very much... What do you see as unfinished about it?

It looks so haunting - lonely yet with hope of life - very cool!

I absolutely adore this - the flowers in the foreground really add some pop and color. Stunning!

You and Maeve are very talented.

t strikes me as quite a novel way to view the old, dilapidated, crumbling industrial buildings...
Usually artists paint a somber picture of doom and decay... You chose a life-asserting view through flowers... Life still wins...

like the contrast between the beautiful living roses and the "dead" building.

Patrice - just needs some work doing to the rose bushes at the bottom of the painting.

Amy - must try not to change the colour relationships if I do much more to this piece.

Meghann - yes I think haunting is a good description of this piece.

Creative Queen - the yellow- orangy flowers certainly do stand out against the purples and blues of the building.

Anita - thanks. I actually tried several colour combinations for this piece and felt that this created the mood I was after.

Thanks Lisa.

Svetlana - yes I think life does win out in the end.

Deb - I think this is a picture of contrasts, in colour and subjects.

Gregorio - I did think very carefully about what colours I was going to use for this piece. I'm glad you my choice.

Thanks Rose.

am no artist but when I saw this painting, the first thing that came to mind was the walls of alhambra. *sigh* this is very beautiful, find it very enchanting.
